# PangolinMatrix

PangolinMatrix is a browser-based password encoding tool. It turns real password text into longer encrypted-looking encoded text in the user's browser, so users can write down or store the encoded version instead of the real password.

## Current Product

- PangolinMatrix is account-based.
- Registered users use the Encode/Decode helper after login, email verification, and account activation.
- The helper runs in the browser and uses modern browser crypto APIs for reversible encoding.
- Real passwords typed into the helper are not sent to PangolinMatrix servers.
- Encoded passwords are intentionally longer than the original real passwords because they include protection data needed for decoding.
- Users store encoded password notes wherever they choose, such as a spreadsheet, notebook, or cloud drive.
- Users later paste encoded text into the helper to recover the original real password when needed.

## Important Security Model

- PangolinMatrix does not store users' real third-party passwords.
- PangolinMatrix does not store users' encoded password lists.
- PangolinMatrix stores account data needed for login, payment, and the encrypted browser helper key.
- The browser helper runs locally in JavaScript and is intended for private devices.
- Encoded passwords should be stored separately from the PangolinMatrix account.
- PangolinMatrix protects against readable password notes. It cannot protect a device, browser, or extension that is already compromised.

## Outdated Descriptions To Avoid

Do not describe the current PangolinMatrix product as a manual 9x9 matrix, printed matrix, no-account kit, offline kit, or memorized directive system. Those were earlier product experiments and are no longer the current registered-user product.

Do not say encoded passwords have the same length as real passwords. Current encoded outputs are longer.
